All it consists of is somebody hinting at posting a link to something relevant to a discussion, when in reality they link to (typically) a YouTube video of Rick Astley’s 1987 breakthrough hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”. If not for explanation purposes, just so I can write it sans the quotation marks.Ī “rick-roll” is a (rather stupid, thus successful) meme that developed on the internet a couple of years ago. In case you have been living under a rock for the past few years, let’s get into the definition of a “rick-roll”. And then, out of the blue, we were “rick-rolled”.
